  2. When done with homework, you need to log onto khanacademy.org (link at right also) and work on the four skills I have for you to practice.
    1. These include:
      1. Solving Similar Triangles 1,
      2. Proportions 2,
      3. Translations of polygons, and
      4. Triangle types.
    2. You need to search for each of the skills in the search box on the Khan Academy site.  Each exercise should have a star next to it.  You have to get 5 CORRECT in a row to finish each skill.
    3. Show me all completed work during class.  If you need to finish outside of class, you will need to take screen shots of your answers.  You will not get credit tomorrow UNLESS I see the screen shots!
    4. TWO of the skills need to be completed before tomorrow.  You can do a THIRD for extra credit in the quiz category of your grade.  Do not do the fourth one.
  3. Quiz tomorrow over similar polygons and dilations.

Week of November 17th-21st

Wednesday:
Today's List:
    Go over homework from yesterday.
Notes over 5.4, Medians and Altitudes.  Download here (finish Altitudes tomorrow).
Create centroids using paper in class.
    HW:  pg. 324 #3-10, pg. 316 #19, 20

Tuesday:
Today's List:
Take notes from 5.3, Angle Bisectors.  Download here.

Construct angle bisectors of a triangle on paper.
  1. Use a provided triangle.
  2. Fold the angles in half (side to side) to create "angle bisectors".
  3. The three bisectors should intersect at one point.  Name this point the incenter.
  4. Use this link to help find points to create the inscribed circle. Do this for one side of the triangle.
  5. You will now draw the inscribed circle.  Use the incenter as the "holding point" for your compass and then use the new point you found in step #4 for the pencil marking.
  6. Draw in the complete circle.
  7. What do you notice about the three sides of the triangle and your circle?  Discuss with your table.
    HW:   pg. 315 #3-20

Monday:
Today's List:
Finish notes from yesterday and work on homework, pg. 308 #3-17.
        Notes can be downloaded here.

    GSP Activity:
  1. Open up your Chapter 5 Project GSP.  Go to page Angle Bisector.
  2. Create a point on the angle bisector.
  3. Choose the new point and one of the outside rays of the angle and construct a perpendicular line.
  4. Create a point where the perpendicular line intersects the outside ray of the angle.
  5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 with the other side of the angle.
  6. Click on both perpendicular lines.  Choose Display --> Hide Perpendicular Lines.
  7. Now construct 2 segments, each going from the point on the outside ray to the point on the angle bisector.  MAKE SURE TO USE THE NEW POINT AND NOT THE ORIGINAL POINT YOU USED TO MAKE THE ANGLE.
  8. Measure the 2 segments you constructed in step 7.
  9. Write a conjecture about your findings.  Write in a complete sentence.
Work on AM until everyone is finished with homework!

Monday, November 10, 2014

Week of November 10th-14th

Friday:
Today's List:  Open Chapter 5 Project GSP.  Click on page 3, Perpendicular Bisector.
  1. Put a point on the perpendicular bisector.
  2. Draw a segment from this new point to the endpoint of the segment.
  3. Do the same to the other endpoint.
  4. Measure the two new segments.
  5. Measure the angle at the midpoint of the segment.
  6. Write a conjecture on your page about the distances from a point on the perpendicular bisector to the endpoints.
Notes over 5.2, Perpendicular Bisectors, including activity from page 306 in book.  Put activity from pg 306 in your notebook on right side, and then draw in the circumcenter and label.

Thursday:
Today's List:    Open yesterday's GSP file, Ch 5 Project.
  1. On the page named Triangle - Midsegment, measure the three sides of the "big" triangle and also the three sides of the "small" triangle.
  2. Match up (move around) the measurements so that the parallel pairs of sides are listed together.
  3. Use a text box to write a statement about each pair of parallel sides.
  4. Name one of the sides of the "small" triangle as Midsegment, by double clicking it with the text tool.
Notes over 5.1, Midsegments in Triangles.  Download here.
    HW:  pg. 300 #3-11, 24-27

Wednesday:
Today's List:

  1. In GSP, create one file named:  Chapter 5 Project.  Make the following pages and do what is described on each page.
    1. Angle Bisector:  Create an angle and then construct the angle bisector.
    2. Perpendicular Line:  Construct a line perpendicular to a segment through a point NOT on the line.
    3. Perpendicular Bisector:  Construct a line perpendicular to a segment through its midpoint (perpendicular bisector).
    4. Triangle - Midsegment:  Create a triangle with a midpoint on each side of the triangle.
      1. Use segments to connect the three midpoints (should create another triangle on the inside.)
    5. Triangle - Median:  Create a triangle with a midpoint on each side of the triangle.
      1. Use segments to connect each vertex to the opposite midpoint (3 total).

Midpoint and Distance Formula Song:

To find the distance of a line
We draw a long square root line
X2 minus X1 squared plus
Y2 minus Y1 squared

Then to find the midpoint
This is what you do
Add the X’s and the Y’s and
Then divide by 2

Remind101

I use a program called Remind101 to send class reminders through text or email.  These reminders may include due dates, needed supplies or test reminders.  I don't see your number and you don't see mine.  All the messages are sent through an anonymous server.  If you would like to participate (both parents and students are invited), please follow the link below and enter your information.
NOTE:  If you sign up with your phone number, you will receive messages through text.  If you sign up with your email, you will receive email reminders.

I will be handing out a permission slip for all students the first day of class.  I will not send out any reminders until I have permission for all those participating.  The permission slip can be downloaded here if you need an extra copy.

Also, you can download these instructions if you would like more information on Remind101.
